The Parenzana was once a narrow-gauge railway threading through Austro-Hungarian Istria — 123 km from Trieste to Poreč, completed in 1902 and abandoned in 1935. Now it's a cycling trail crossing three countries, through old stone tunnels, hilltop villages, and down to the Adriatic.
